We have been on a trip to Blackburn Museum, as part of our historical objects brief.
Tour guide Steve Irwin showed us round the various areas off the museum.
The first area we looked at was the textile area where we took some photographs off all the machinery including Samuel Cromptons spinning mule and John Kays advanced hand loom.
Next we looked at some object that had been used many years ago and what we still use now including tweezers, a bronze hairbrush and a silver broach
The museum has a good range of objects from the war period, i found the children's toys an interesting subject to photograph. The dolls in the museum where quite strange looking almost scary, not like today's pretty dolls.
I also liked the toys and books in the museum they where very colourful and interesting
and also still games that young children play today. At this stage we had to turn off our flashes as not to damaged the objects
I enjoyed looking at the Egyptian jewellery items including a neck less, bangle and earrings, I found it amazing how they are so well preserved after all this time
Steve the tour guide said that we can make an appointment and take objects from behind the glass and photograph them without getting the glare from the flash in the glass, he also said that they have no much to display so we can ask to see more objects.
The museum will be very useful for getting information and photographs for the objects brief

Tiara Scanning Activity
I have scanned my object using photoshop.
Next I have used various tools on the images to create different effects
I have chosen different parts on the main image for each picture
On this picture I have chosen a green filter
Here I have used a red filter and I have altered the tone by altering the curves.
I have lowered them slightly as I preferred the effect
Here I have cropped another section from the original Scan off the tiara and I have
used a yellow filter. I also like the effect off the combs
On this picture I have not chosen much off the tiara and I decided to capture the love heart.
All I have done is upped the curves to make it brighter.
I have a also tyred some effects on the original pictures off the tiara.
The pictures where taken with a Nikon camera using a Macro lenses.
As you can see from the contact sheets some off the pictures are darker than others this is because i had a soft box on a turtle stand as part of my lighting when this wasn't on it it darker.
The other light i used was a soft box at the side off my object

Original
On this next picture I have altered the lightness and the hue settings
Here I have altered the saturation and lightness setting
which gives the picture an black and white effect

Set Build
For this brief we have been asked to work in groups to create a set build to photograph.
My group has chosen to build a set for charlie and the chocolate factory.
We have worked together to decide what we can use to create this magical fairy tale. We have used a very colourful design to portray the happiness off this film!
We have lit our objects by using a boom arm with honeycomb lighting creating a pool off light over our set build.
We also used a backdrop with a sheet over
We also used a backdrop with a sheet over
We have also used a turtle stand with a back drop reflector behind the table
We also used a green backdrop in some off the photos, if we didn't want the back ground in the shoot we switched off the back drop reflector.
See examples -
With reflector
without reflector
I have also altered some images in lightroom to show different effects
I have used the sepia effect on this picture i have used 1/20 with F6.3 ISO 200 I didn't like this effect as its too dull for the picture we are trying to create.
This is colour CP1 on lightroom i liked the effect with the green backdrop it makes it more effective.
1/20 f 6.3 ISO 200
This is an effect called purple glasses i liked this effect as it gives it the magical glow as in the film
Close up off details used
As you can see we have used various things to create our charlie and the chocolate factory set
chocolate fountain, fiber optic light, flowers, necklace's, jewels, candles and holders, star burst, march mellows, fruit pastels, Lolly's, soap bar, perfume bottle, candle stand and a Lego man as willy wonker, i made him a little hat from card and stuck it on his head.

Second Set Build
I have decided to create a second set build, I have chosen the theme of Narnia ( the snow queen )
I have crated the set design using a various range of props. For the snow queen i have used a barbie in a blue dress.
To create the scene I have used silver wrapping paper for the background which i backed on to a product table, next I used fake snow and snow in a can to create the winter glow. I also bought a slay with rain dears to sit the barbie in - as this is what the snow queen has in the film.
I also used lots of glitter and various coloured lights.
The lighting I used included a boom with a over hanging light with a honeycomb attached, to create a pool off light over the design.
Also a soft box on a turtle stand was used under the product table for some off the pictures
The pictures that are very bright are the pictures where the main light in the room has been used - just an experiment.

Lighting set up
The pictures that are very bright are the pictures where the main light in the room has been used - just an experiment.
This is where just the fairy lights have been used to create the light
Here is a contact sheet of images with exposure details
Pictures taken from above the set up
I thought it would be a good idea to create my own snow queen, i have chosen the costume and have done the hair and make up of the model. I have ordered the dress from ebay for the shoot. I have uploaded a picture close up off the dress.
Unfortunately after taking the pictures my sd card corrupted and i lost all but four pictures.
I have used some effects on lightroom
This is cyanotype tone
This tone is colour CP2
This tone is black and white i like the effect of the snow on the floor - this is what i just wanted!
This next picture shows a close up of the makeup that I have applied, i have used face paint for the white base, then false white eyelashes, glitter eyes, silver glitter gems all around the eyes, blue lips and white hair
Reflective Objects
I have been asked to show my results from my reflective objects. I was unsure on what to photograph so I used a few different objects to see what would work the best.
My first attempt was to photograph my ipod, i choose not to use these pictures as my ipod is quite badly scratched and it spoiled the picture.
The lighting used on this picture was just a light with a flash head and a lead to transmit the flash
I next decided to use a key so see how this looked but i found the white background a bit boring so i decided to use some textured wallpaper, i have also edited these pictures in lightroom
For these next 4 photos i have used a light using a flash head with a lead to transmit the flash.
I have tyred to give this picture an old fashioned look
I found this next picture a bit too reflective with the glare off the key
So i next tried to photograph a light bulb, again i have used the old fashioned look
Although i liked this i didn't feel it was right and i had an idea to use the light bulb in a glass with water. I thought this would be good as the glass and water would reflect.
First i have taken some photos off the glass on the wall paper, i like this as you can see right through the glass to the wall paper
Next i decided to put the bulb in the glass
I have taken pictures using different angles
On this picture the glass and bulb look tilted
On all off these pictures i have used a soft box behind the product table and under the product table.
This has given me the lighting i wanted.
These next pictures i have only used the turtle stand with soft box under the product table
On these next photos i have done the opposite, i have turned off the soft box under the product table and just used the soft box behind the stand.
This now creates a reflection on the table and i like this as it gives more effect to the picture

Commercial Picture
For my commercial picture i have decided to use a perfume bottle as this is my favourite perfume and i like photographing pretty shiny things.
I have used the soft box on a turtle stand under the product table, i have also used the soft box the behind the product table
I have also used lightroom to change the effects
This is the cream tone
Sepia Tone
I like this as the back ground colour matches the bottle
I don't like this as you can see the soft box in the reflection
I like the background colour with this picture with the different shades but the box is overexposed so the writing cant be seen
This is with out affects

My Final Product
I am choosing this as my final product as i like the everything about it, even though you can see the flash on the bottle i think it adds to the effect and makes it sparkly.
I like the reflection off the bottle on the product table. I also like the glow from the pattern near the top off the bottle.
I have used 1/60 at F8 and ISO 200

Museum work
For this brief we also have to choose a historical object from the museum. I went to the museum and got all the pictures of what I needed unfortunately my SD card corrupted and I lost all my pictures so I have been to the museum a second time to retake the pictures I need.
Unfortunately Steve Irwinn was not there so the pictures are not as good as the first time as Steve allowed me to take the pictures were I wanted and he also allowed me to put a cloth over the table etc for my pictures had a better look.
But the second time around I was not allowed to do these things so I am not too pleased with the outcome off some off the pictures. I went to the museum a third time to do the pictures again and regretably the toys where out on loan to a school for a month so i was not able to retake the pictures.
I have chosen to photograph Victorian toys for my historical objects.
I have chosen to photograph Victorian toys for my historical objects.
When I went with the class to the museum I had taken an interest at the Victorian toys in the cabinet.
I have put photos off them on my blog.
I found it really interesting to look at the difference in the toys now and the toys back in the Victorian times.
I have looked on this website www.toys-to-you.co.uk/.../toptenchildrenstoysforchristmas.html
to see what the top ten toys are for this Xmas
they are as follows
they are as follows
10. Wooden Bunk Beds
9. Soft Beauty Box
8. Eco Rocket
7. Big Farm in a Box
6. Wooden Elephant Alphabet Puzzle
5. Wooden Construction
4. Soft Medieval Castle
3. Pirate Ship
2. Melody Mix
1. The Big Castle
This just showed me what a variety off toys there is now for children to play with. Where as back in Victorian times there was toys like the yo yo, skipping ropes, nine men Morris board, there was also objects such as dolls which did look quite scary compared to now
The object i have chose is a old Victorian steam roller
I have done some research in to how the train was made and it was made in the 1920.
A parent would of made it for the child, the steam road roller is made from tin plate and wood.
I have photographed this object from different angles
I have chosen this as i feel it has character especially as it has been made from a parent to their child, shows the true history in this object.
As many parents couldn't afford to buy food in the 1920 let alone toys so they had to improvise.
