Skills Set
I have been looking on a web sight called skills set, I am researching different photography aspects I am hoping to get some facts and figures

Who works in the photo imaging industry?

Well from research on this site it seems that its mainly men in this profession. Women are underrepresented in all areas of the photo imaging industry, making up only a third of the overall workforce.
Especially with photographers it seems there is only 20% off women who do this as a job.

The photo imaging industry has a low proportion of people from minority ethnic groups.
A high average of the workforce consider themselves to be disabled.

Qualifications -
More than two fifths have a degree and over a fifth have a technical qualification, including a quarter of all photographers.

Defining the photo studio industry
The Photo Imaging industry is made up of nearly 14,000 companies, almost half of which are sole trading or freelance photographers.

These are the remaining company's -
  • Image producers (including laboratories and mini labs)
  • Photo retail
  • Picture libraries and agencies
  • Manufacturers
  • Support services (e.g. equipment hire and repair)
Across the industry as a whole, 93% of companies employ 5 people or fewer (this is not good when it comes to people finding jobs)
London ans the south east has the highest work force at 40%
The rest off the workforce is spread throughout Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the remaining regions of England, with the highest concentrations in the North West 12% and the South West 11%

The photo imaging industry needs people with a large range off creative skills. Employers have not been happy with candidates they have been receiving at entry level. so  more employers are wanting candidates with higher education. There are 295 courses each yer teaching photography.
